The AFO offers a new program for Franco-Ontarian organizations

Ottawa, February 26, 2019 – The AFO is pleased to announce a new service it now offers as part of the program Accroître la diversité (Increasing Diversity) established with funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

This program has allowed the AFO to undertake a project supported by a ten-month grant of $74,700. The funds will be used to devise and test strategies for better representation of diversity within the boards of directors of Francophone organizations. By bringing people together to build inclusive and engaged communities, this initiative helps diverse groups collaborate to improve community life. The project will impact 1,000 people in the community.

”Congratulations to the Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario for obtaining this grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Our Government for the people has made the commitment to continually support the Franco-Ontarian community and its culture”, said Nina Tangri, Mississauga-Streetsville MPP

“Thanks to this funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the AFO is able to provide more support to Francophone organizations and reinforce the services that their teams provide. The projects developed within this program will put new resources in place to improve the active offer of French language services within the network of Ontario’s Francophone organizations,” said Carol Jolin, president of the AFO.

The Assemblée de la francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO) is the umbrella organisation and the political voice of Ontario’s Francophone community. Its mandate is to assist the Francophone community across the province in working together and to provide community representation, in particular to advocate for the rights of Ontario’s 742,000 Franco-Ontarian citizens.
